Artistry. Beauty. Passion. Faith. Can it all fit in one package?
Edwina Findley makes it happen.
Hailed by critics as "Impressive", "Stellar", "Vibrant", and "A Marvel to Watch", this versatile NYU-trained actress is currently filming her third season as "Davina Lambreaux" in HBO's Treme, set in post-Katrina New Orleans, while simultaneously recurring last season as "Jill" on ABC's hit series Brothers and Sisters, starring Sally Field and Calista Flockheart. She has recently completed filming Ava DuVernay's upcoming movie, "Middle of Nowhere", winner at Sundance 2012 and due in theatres this October.
Not one to slow down, Edwina recently ventured to Europe, where she filmed George Lucas' movie Red Tails about the legendary Tuskegee Airmen, followed by a return to the stage in Danai Gurira's Eclipsed, a new play set during the Liberian war, and was nominated for a Barrymore Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her role in the play Gee's Bend. Her brimming commercial career includes voiceovers for AT&T, McDonald's, Jergen's and many others, and has recently culminated in a national television spot for technology giant, Apple. This girl is on the move, yet still finds time to regularly conduct inspirational workshops for young people and adults through her organization, Abundant Life Creative Services.
A native of Washington, DC, Edwina began singing and dancing by age two, and after reciting an entire chapter of the Psalms by age three, her mother knew she was no ordinary child. Edwina's mom became passionate about putting her daughter in drama, piano, dance, choir, step team, cheerleading, and every other activity she believed would nurture the special gifts and talents her daughter intrinsically possessed.
Edwina went on to graduate from the renowned Duke Ellington School of the Arts, joining the ranks of fellow alumni Denyce Graves and Dave Chapelle. From there she attended New York University, and her superior work was honored by the Outstanding Artist and Scholar award, Founder's Day Award, Dean's List, and induction into the prestigious Tisch Scholars Program. Learning from such cutting-edge actors as Jeffrey Wright, Sanaa Lathan, and Billy Crudup during her summer internships at Off-Broadway's Public Theatre, Edwina became well-positioned to begin a professional career of her own.
A multitalented twenty-something brimming with passion and potential, Edwina has played both rogues and royalty alike, notably spending her days as Omar's gun-toting side-kick on HBO's The Wire, then dashing to DC's Shakespeare Theater in time for her nightly performance as Welsh-speaking princess Lady Mortimer. Edwina has performed in twelve countries, sung in seven languages, and has appeared in such popular television shows as Law and Order, One Life to Live, New Amsterdam, NBC's NY-70, and FOX's Blue Blood (directed by Brett Ratner), and got her start in BET's Teen Summit. Additionally, Edwina is a sought-after motivational speaker, and has presented well over a hundred motivational and artistic workshops around the country for aspiring artists, schools, ministries, and social service organizations through her organization Abundant Life Creative Services. She is a contributing writer for WOW! Women of the Word Magazine, Child Advocate for global humanitarian organization World Vision, and an active member of the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, NY and One Church International in Los Angeles, CA.
